Advanced Sailing Weekend - June 2027

Ready to take your sailing to the next level? This advanced weekend is for sailors who want to build confidence, develop their technique and learn new skills on the water.

During the weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to develop:

• Sailing with spinnakers – an introduction to setting, flying and recovering a spinnaker.

• Seamanship skills – improving boat handling, control and decision-making.

• Assistant instructor skills – an introduction to supporting sailing sessions, explaining techniques and helping others learn.

This is an introduction to the skills involved in assisting an instructor, rather than an Assistant Instructor qualification course.

Booking prerequisite
Participants must already hold RYA Youth Sailing Stage 3 or above before booking. This weekend is designed for sailors who already have a solid foundation of sailing skills.

There will also be opportunities to work towards relevant Scout Sailing, Nautical Skills and Time on the Water staged badges, alongside developing skills towards further RYA awards.

What to bring
All boats are provided. Please bring:

• Personal waterproofs, preferably a wetsuit and sailing cag.

• A buoyancy aid (50N) and helmet.

• Suitable footwear and clothing for sailing.

• A towel and changes of clothing.

• Food will be provided

A limited number of buoyancy aids and helmets can be provided by prior arrangement.

Places are strictly limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Early booking is strongly recommended. Please ensure you meet the Stage 3 prerequisite before booking.
